Globalization is a term that has been interpreted in various ways; overall it entails the advancing combination of economics, politics, and societies. From the main definition branches numerous dimensions in which the idea of Globalization can be looked through. The health and environmental dimension of globalization is the most relevant to everyday life. This mostly affects citizens of developing or under developed countries. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is rapidly influencing most every underdeveloped country in the world , resulting healthcare becoming a globalized issue. As a society, there is a belief that people should go out and educate other countries about this disease and promote precautions for it. This was the first effort of countries to come together and fight against the arrival and spread of deadly dise ases. As technology advanced in the developed world, so did the prevention of those previous diseases. As soon as things began to get better, however, the next greatest pandemic hit. â€Å"Nearly half of all deaths in the United States in 1918 were flu related. Some 675,000 Americans--about six percent of the population of 105 million and the equivalent of 2 million American deaths today- perished from the Spanish Flu†(Garrett). The Spanish Influenza swept internationally, throughout South America, Africa, Indonesia, the Pacific and Russia. â€Å"In fact, many historians and biologists believe that nearly a third of all humans suffered from influenza in 1918-19—and that of these, 100 million died†(Garrett). The ease with which this disease spread is attributed to the First World War and soldiers traveling across the ocean. After several years of pandemic prevention the international community was struck by globalization.
